Ten Best Voltaire Quotes

Oh, yeah, Voltaire. I know everyone knows about Voltaire. This guy is so famous that I don’t have to say that he is a Frenchman and that he is considered to be one of the earliest philosophers to embrace the principles of enlightenment. His political ideals are closely identical to what we call today as liberalism and he had great influence over the founding fathers of the US of A. He covered everything from religion to politics, life style to romance, war to civil society. He is known for his biting satire and witty language and, over a life time, he has left some of the best words wisdom for us.

Here are my favorite ten best quotes of Voltaire.

# A witty saying proves nothing.

# To succeed in the world it is not enough to be stupid, you must also be well-mannered.

# Appreciation is a wonderful thing: It makes what is excellent in others belong to us as well.

# As long as people believe in absurdities they will continue to commit atrocities.

# Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd.

# Originality is nothing but judicious imitation. The most original writers borrowed one from another. [personal favorite]

# God gave us the gift of life; it is up to us to give ourselves the gift of living well.

# The best way to be boring is to leave nothing out.

# Judge a man by his questions rather than his answers.

# Prejudices are what fools use for reason.

Extra: I have lived eighty years of life and know nothing for it, but to be resigned and tell myself that flies are born to be eaten by spiders and man to be devoured by sorrow.

You are welcome.
